Are You A Book Marketing Slut?

What kind of publicist or marketer are you?  No, this isn’t a therapist asking you about your psychological profile, but the question should be contemplated.  Your ability to market anything well may rest on your connections, knowledge, experience and ideas, but it also rests on,our personality, your passion, and your style.

To be a marketing slut is a good thing if you want to sell something and be successful. In marketing and publicity. The virgins “saving” themselves rarely come out ahead.  So, put on your marketing mini-skirt and start playing the field!

Here’s what a marketing slut does:

·         Listens well and makes the other person feel special.
·         Always smiles and acts super friendly.
·         Expresses a desire to be with you.
·         Helps meet the needs of another.
·         Presents things in the best possible light.
·         Finds a way to make something possible and never says “no”.
·         Makes you feel wanted, needed, even desired.
·         Exudes a lot of positive and feel-good energy.
·         Never demands anything and focuses on servicing your needs.

Marketing sluts do this with ease.  They simply shut down the side of them that is otherwise critical, emotional, judgmental and opinionated and instead, put on an invisible mask and, with determination and restraint, assume the persona of one who loves everyone, everything and every day.

If you are to market yourself, sell something, or promote a book, you will have to become a marketing slut.  Once you agree to “sell” something you agree to play for one team over another.  You no longer are bipartisan, neutral, or innocent. You now play a role, like an actor, and your script calls for saying and doing anything – short of lies and illegalities – to convince others that they want what you have to offer.

Marketing sluts know this and live comfortably in their skin.  They don’t look back or question their behavior.  Even those who seem respected by the industry, competitors or consumers, are big fat marketing sluts.

I know I am a marketing slut, are you?
