November Is A Rough Media Month – But Offers Opportunity Too

A hurricane hitting 65 million people on the East coast causes record damage. Then comes a national presidential election that may yield changes of power in congress and/or the White House. Then Thanksgiving Day - -which has become a Wednesday afternoon to Monday affair – comes along. The opportunities to reach the major media are somewhat limited this month. On the other hand, there are many opportunities to pitch the media if you have a book relating to:

Elections:
·         Politics
·         Government
·         Leadership
·         History

Hurricane:
·         Weather and Storms
·         Recovery
·         Economy
·         City planning and architecture
·         Impact on housing, jobs, industries

Thanksgiving:
·         Gift-giving
·         Holiday themes
·         Cooking

Plus there are many other experts who can apply their knowledge to the recent events. A self-help book expert can speak about how we cope after a disaster or about family relationships during the holidays. Those who write leadership and management books can comment on how government and business handled the storm prep and recovery. An economist can discuss the future based on election results. The list goes on. The key is to take some aspect of what you know and write about and find a way to link it to what is happening in the news because right now, the news media is tougher to break through than at any point this year.
