Interview with historical fiction author Shreyans Zaveri

The Fuehrer’s Blood

  1. What really inspired you to write your book, to force you from taking an idea or experience and conveying it into a book? My core inspiration is my love for storytelling. Right from a very young age, I began seeing stories in everything around me. I loved to delve deeper into the “why” of everything that I studied around me. When at the age of ten I was introduced to the history of WWII, it gripped me. It intrigued me greatly and I always looked for answers in between the “textbook” knowledge. I found the textual knowledge to be carefully curated and pushed towards us to make believe a certain reality. When, I learned about other unheard stories and life events I couldn’t contain it within myself. It pushed me to write and narrate. I felt like I was an outlet for those unheard voices and untold stories.

  2. What is it about and whom do you believe is your targeted reader? The book is primarily a narrative based on true stories of the WWII with a different perspective. It talks about the German perspective to war. It digs deep into the history and childhood of Adolf Hitler and tries to understand the events which led to making him what he was. It also delves into the theory that he escaped from Berlin. What the book does is, deliver a final sense of justice as an uncanny band of German soldiers set out to finish him and deliver justice to the world. My target reader is anyone who loves a gripping tale. Anyone who is interested in a good read can pick up this book.

3.    What do you hope will be the everlasting thoughts for readers who finish your book? What should remain with them long after putting it down? I hope to get my readers “thinking” by the time they put down the book. I hope to open their minds to the fact that everything is not as we see it. The stories that never surfaced through all these years are now seeing the light of day. Many unheard voices surface through the pages of my book and I hope that a sense of fulfillment lingers on in their thoughts long after they put the book down. Even though it is a heavy subject, the story ends in a way that gives them a sense of freedom and content.

  1. What advice or words of wisdom do you have for fellow writers? Make sure your story flows through an ink that dries up on a paper. Even though the world is moving towards digital, the physical aspect of putting ink on paper will take you a long way. There is something about your hands brushing against the parchment; it leaves a part of you into the story. Have that part of you live in that story, only that will make it unique.

  1. What trends in the book world do you see and where do you think the book publishing industry is heading? The publishing industry is definitely changing. With everything going digital, it is both good and bad news. It is good because many upcoming authors can now get around the gatekeepers of the publishing industry. At the same time, with the availability of so many publishing options, it also dilutes the content value somewhat. On the whole I am very excited for the future of the publishing industry and I think it is heading in a very positive direction.

6.    What great challenges did you have in writing your book? Since I was addressing the WWII, I had to be extremely apt with my research. I ended up in a research loop as I would set out to learn about a particular aspect and that would lead to something even more exciting. So keeping on track with doing the appropriate research was a huge challenge. Also, double checking facts and then intricately weaving my imagination into them was challenging.

7.
If people can only buy one book this month, why should it be yours? My book somehow reflects the current times and I consider that to be a “Zeitgeist” moment. Keeping the current political scenarios of the world in mind, my book is a good reflection of the world that has gone by. It acts as a gentle reminder to act and not react.  Anyone who craves a little literary adventure and thrill should definitely pick this book. I assure you a never before seen perspective.

While writing "The Fuehrer's Blood" countless WW II stories came to the fore. It must have taken a herculean number of sacrifices to put an end to the reign of the Nazi's. One can only be in awe and respect to those innumerable lives that were laid down for the freedom of mankind. "The Fuehrer's Blood" goes down a road seldom traversed. It has taken a substantial amount of research and work on the author's part to brave this road. The author, Shreyans Zaveri, credits his varied storytelling skills to his vast educational background. His spark for fiction evolved with every new subject that he learned. From a Bachelor's degree in Science to a double Master's in Philosophy & Visual effects, the vistas of storytelling evolved every day. Shreyans sees a story in everything he does. From the photographs that he takes to the movies he makes and the novels he authors, there is always a story waiting to be told. "The Fuehrer's Blood" is Shreyans Zaveri's first literary fiction novel. The author is currently working on his second untitled novel and hopes to continue writing compelling stories. For more info:
